Hen Party, Hens Night,
Bachelorette Party, Last Night Of Freedom, What's in a name?
It should be enjoyed so let us give you some ideas.
The only information found up to now about the original idea behind hen
nights seem to suggest that the celebrations - which would of course
include singing and drinking - would ward off any evil spirits which
would bring bad luck to the marriage.
Hen nights are now traditionally enjoyed before ‘The Big Day’.
Celebrating a bride to be's ‘last night of freedom’.
Hen
nights out, or indeed, hen nights in, are also often enjoyed for other reasons, almost any
celebration will do for girls to go mad on a hen night.
A
Hen night is indeed, quite often in fact, a whole Hen Weekend
Whatever the reason, you will want the occasion to go smoothly therefore
it is always best to be organised.
Here, we will concentrate on how to organise a party before a wedding,
but of course it can be adapted and information used for any
celebration.
Who will organise
the hen party
As will most other things it is best to let just one person take control
of organising a hen party. They can, of course, delegate specific jobs to
others otherwise it can turn into a rather daunting and tiring task, but there should be one person in control of things.
If it is indeed a pre-wedding hen night, than often the best
friend/sister or bridesmaid may be the best choice as they are likely to
have a better idea of what the bride to be would enjoy.
Discuss with the bride to be, or others in the party what type of occasion it
should be, e.g. will it be a wild evening or will you go for a whole
weekend of pampering or excitement. Do you want a party theme?
Decide who will
be invited. This, of course, might help to decide what you will actually
do for the celebration. If you decide to invite the bride to be's
Grandma she may not want to go white water rafting!!
Whatever occasion the hen night is for, ensure it is one everyone will
enjoy. Quite often hen nights include people of varied ages so take this
into account when choosing what to do. Some people are shyer than others
so that may be something else to consider.
Where to go and What
do to - a few ideas may be..
1) Traditional ‘naughty’ hen parties with male strippers, naughty
outfits
and plenty of alcohol etc.
2) A hens night in with friends. This is quite popular at the
moment. It can either be at
someone’s home or at a hotel. You could hire videos, play games, or even
hire someone to come and pamper you - maybe a beautician? Whatever you choose there are tons of
things you can do and it can be a lot of fun – and cheaper than going out
too if money is tight. See more
hen night in ideas.
3)
Pampering hen parties can often be organised through hotels and beauty salons for
those who want to spend a bit more.
4)
There are many other ways of having a great time at a hen party. Going to
a theme park, white water rafting, bungee jumping and other exciting
activities. Why stick to traditional parties?
5)
Pole dancing evenings are
becoming increasingly popular. Many companies now organise pole dancing
lessons for hen parties which turn out to be hilarious.
6)
Hen
Party Buses or Fire Engines etc are another option and are certainly are becoming more
popular. There is usually on board entertainment and plenty to eat and
drink. They take you around various venues and usually the price includes
entrance into clubs etc.
The list
is endless you just have to get creative.
Although the majority of hen nights tend to last just one evening, more and more
people are organising whole weekends away.
Make sure whatever you decide to do that you make a lot of enquiries
before hand about the cost etc. Be realistic, not everyone has a huge open
purse and it could be the thing that stops some people from attending –
sometimes at the last minute.
Think about the location of the event and how everyone will get there, and
home again. This part of the planning stage is crucial.
Booking And Paying
Now you have to decide who is going to be at the hen party and give
plenty of notice. Ideally the party should be at least a week before the
wedding - some of us take longer to recover than others!
Book the venue as early as possible. Anywhere good gets very booked up, and it
also gives
you time to start collecting money for deposits and making sure everyone
can make the date chosen.
If it is an event where you have to pay in advance, you will need to get a
deposit from everyone attending. Also get a deposit in a kitty towards
transport, entertainment etc. If people have paid up front they are more
likely not to let you down at the last minute and you won’t end up with a
problem paying the bill. If it is a pay on the night occasion it’s a good
idea to have a kitty at the start of the day/evening and if necessary keep
topping it up.
Ensure everyone has details of all venues etc in case people get split up
from the group. It might be a good idea to have a meeting place organised
if this should happen. Taking your mobile phones can be a good idea too.
If you are not the organiser, remember, it’s easy to overlook something
when you have so many things, and people, to organise. So take
responsibility for your own enjoyment by keeping in contact with them. On
the hand, if you are the organiser make sure you let everyone know if
there is anything in particular they should know or bring.
How to get there and
back
Unless numbers to the hen party are vast, it is always a good idea to keep
a list of how everyone is to get there and back safely.
Ordering taxi’s in advance is always wise. Most hen nights are held on
busy evenings when taxi firms are very busy.
Hiring a stretch limo is also a fun idea, either for the whole evening if
the event lends itself to it, or just to take you to the main venue. It
can be a great start to the night. The more of you there are, the cheaper
it becomes so it’s worth considering. They vary in size and can often
accommodate anything from 8-25 people so it may well turn out not much
more expensive than a few taxi’s, and it’s a lot more fun.
What should you wear
Obviously this will depend entirely on what you are doing. However, I'm
sure at some point during the celebrations there will time and opportunity
for some dressing up and fun and games. If you weren't going to include
this maybe you should - it's a hen night after all.
Some must have hen night items for the bride to be could include :
A Flashing Bride To Be Tiara and Veil,
Flashing Bride To Be Garter,
Flashing Bride To Be Sash,
Feathered Angel Wings with L Plates or perhaps a whole
Bride
to be 3 piece Set?
For the rest of the hen party you have a choice of fun hen party items
such as :
Devil's Horns,
Novelty Willy Wands,
Flashing Fairy Wings
(best seller)
Warning Boppers for a Girls Night Out.
Jazz it all up with some
Penis Earrings and you're well away.
Of
course you can always be daring and wear a naughty costume such as a
French Maids outfit
or maybe go as a
Naughty Nurse?.
Should people take a
gift
Often when we go to parties or gatherings it’s difficult to know
whether you should take something with you. It’s awful when you seem to be
the only one who does something different to the rest of the party.
It isn’t really traditional to take a gift to hen parties but if you want
to, it’s best to give something small and fun. Anything saucy is a good
idea. Fun sex toys such as a
bad vibes talking vibrator or some
fluffy
metal handcuffs. It’ll create a great laugh and
start the fun off. If you have a long standing friendship with the bride
to be maybe a memento of your friendship such as a photograph or some
music you once danced around your handbags to.
Don't forget to make sure people are introduced to each other as they
arrive. It can be
quite awkward trying to introduce yourself to others. If you get to the
point of playing games etc the ice should already have been broken to
allow people to relax and enjoy themselves.
Hen Night Games
I'm sure most girls know at
least one good drinking game that be adapted for a hen party. Have a chat
with a few friends you'll have a great laugh thinking them up. maybe offer
a small prize for the best and most outrageous idea? We have
given you a few to give you hen games ideas.

we’ve covered everything but hopefully we’ve given you something to
think about.
Last minute points
To avoid disappointment, Pre-book as much as possible in advance.
Book as early as possible.
Make sure you know how much it will all be.
Don’t be afraid to ask people for deposits if necessary.
Remember to get written confirmation for everything you book.
Keep a list of all those invited on you with their mobile numbers.
Remember to send everyone a list of venue dates and times, together with
every single bit of relevant information, including phone numbers for
them to ring if there is a problem.
